Uncovered! - The 1-Penny Podcast Project
I was Googling and I found references to the 1-Penny Podcast Project. It was started back in March of 2006 by a guy named Jon Watson in Canada who does a podcast called The JaK Attack! It's a unique idea, and completely different from my Penny Podcast Project. But worth noting because of the similarity in names. Plus, Jon deserves the credit for being first to come up with a name like this.
Jon's concept is to sell ads inside his JaK Attack! podcast episodes. He'll guarantee 500 downloads of his podcast with your ad in it for only $5, or your money back. That's a penny per download. It's also a CPM of $10, which is very, very reasonable to reach a targeted audience.
He'll read your three-line ad somewhere in his podcast. You don't know where, though. The idea is to drive traffic to your website. I hope Jon is very successful with his project.
My Penny Podcast Project is quite different. I wouldn't say it's a better idea than Jon's, just a different one. His is essentialy a revenue concept that explores the advertising potential of podcasts. Mine is about creating new podcast content for people and businesses, and handling all the production and distribution for them, with a unique twist to the pricing model. Jon gets a minimum of $5 per ad, and he can have numerous ads in his podcast episodes. As Jon's podcast grows to 1,000 downloads, he'll raise his price to $10 per ad. I actually won't get $5 for a podcast episode until I produce my 10th episode, which will go for $5.12 with unlimited downloads. Sigh. But then it doubles to $10.24 for the next one. Yipee!
I'll put up a pricing table soon in case you need a visual.
